Worst Watching Omens

I've watched the final part of Good Omens today, having dodged spoiler postings over on tumblr. And to be honest, I feel got at.

Now normally, hubby won't watch any Good Omens with me; he's not interested in the subject, he says. Well, he came and sat next to me as it started, and immediately started going on about how much better Rik Mayall would have been as Aziraphale, despite Michael Sheen being great.

Urge to thump was rising.

Then his brother phoned, so I had this loud conversation next to me about loco parts, blah blah blah. I paused the programme, tried glaring, and inwardly seethed.

Urge to thump rising.

Phone call finally finishes, so I think I can watch the programme in peace. Well, unbeknown to me, hubby had put the washing machine on. Yeah *waves pom poms of sarcasm* By the sound of it he hadn't put much in it as the balance was off, and it banged about once it got going, extremely loudly. I put subtitles on in order to follow the plot.

Urge to thump rising.

Washing machine enters spin cycle. Thank God I had put subtitles on but was still very irritated.

Near the end of the tale and my mobile phone goes off. I didn't recognise the number but it wasn't flagged as potention scam, so hoping it might be the hospital wth my checkup appointment, so I paused the programme and answered. Some Indian bloke in what sounded like a call centre greeted me by saying his name is Christopher Columbus. Normally I'd have laughed, but I was pissed enough to just say "no thanks" and instantly ended the call.

Urge to thump rising!

Get to the end of Good Omens, all good feelings; but as the end credits start to appear I didn't react quickly enough (I happen to like reading the credits) and Amazon cut off the programme and went straight to something totally different.

Urge rose and blew. I almost leapt out the chair, shouting how f*cking annoying this was, that I'm buying a new washing machine, bloody cold callers, this was just like what they did at the end of The Whale... ARGH!!!!!

You probably get the picture.

Hubby, to his credit, agreed we need a quieter washing machine so I can go and choose one; and then he went and made me a cup of herbal tea.

So don't ask me if I enjoyed watching the last part of Good Omens yet, because I'm still calming down.

No Planes But Trains and Automobiles

Something weird is going on with me - I'm having trouble reading fanfiction at the moment. It just seems extremely daunting, for some reason, which is weird because normally fanfiction is my safety zone, as it were.

Talking of comfort reading, I'm still able to read slushy romance books. I get a load free through Bookfunnel, Prolific and Bookspry, you see. The latest one was very different, to my surprise, in that the author gave us general info about the love interest bloke (tall, thin, dark hair, warm brown eyes; said once) but only said that the woman had hair long enough to put in a bun, and had a few freckles on her nose. That was it. No continuing references to the colour of their hair, nor any shade of their skin. Not one, although they were acknowledged to sweat at one point. Very unusual for an American author. I even double checked at the end where the author came from - California was the answer. It was extremely refreshing, to be honest.

In other news, I've recently ridden on a steam train, been around a safari park, and bought a new car <-- not related to any possible animal attack in the safari park, please note. It was a lovely family weekend break.

Live Aid Anniversary

Apparently it's the 40th anniversary of Live Aid, and we're very happily watching a compendium of the highlights of the concert (on BBC 2).

At least it isn't 16 hours this time, and they've whittled it down to 5 hours. We've just been singing along to Queen and now enjoying David Bowie.

Two Come Back From Woburn: A Personal Update

Hello

I just thought I'd let you know I've got my operation date, and they'll do a hysterectomy this Wednesday. Judging by my gall bladder removal last August, it's going to be like crawling on eggshells for a good week or so.

Never mind, eh.

Once they've examined the removed tissue, they'll tell me if there will be any radiotherapy/chemotherapy/nothing else needs doing.

BTW: The Woburn bit in the title refers to our family holiday we'd had booked since Christmas, at Center Parcs Woburn Forest. All the boys, partner/spouses and granchildren came with us; and so I'm glad we didn't have to cancel it.

Youngest got engaged last weekend, so we had much to celebrate. It's only taken him six months to actually ask the question..... no biggie...
