There is just something about all those American food blogs....

...that manages to turn my stomach.

That just looks way too sweet. Yuck!

Come to think of it, what do you call the colorful stuff on top?

Not going there....

I call them sprinkles, hubby calls them jimmies. Different parts of the country call them different things.

Apparently, it's a Philadelphia thing.... I'd never heard of it, either.

I can't say that that is particularly appetizing. Like dm12 said, it looks too sickeningly sweet. I prefer sweets with flavor, not just sugar.

I call the things on top "sprinkles". I've never heard them called anything else. Even in "The Simpsons", Homer calls them "sprinkles".

Well, as I think about it, "sprinkles" are used, I think, specifically for the ones pictured there - the little cylindrical bits of sweetened... whatever that stuff is - fat, wax, whatever. There are other things that Americans might call "sprinkles" that are also sprinkled on frosting, such as little sugary things shaped like flat flowers or Ten's edible ball bearings, but if you just say "sprinkles", most people will picture the ones here. Oddly, I remember when I was a kid, we referred to the general category of "things you sprinkle on frosting" as "confections". Which is stupid, because "confection" is usually meant for a sweet food or dish - the brownie in the picture is a confection, for example.

I'm so confused now.

I have a cousin who's always posting recipes for that kind of sweet crap on Facebook and sometimes she even tags me. EW. Yeah, no. I just keep scrolling.
